What we do
We’re a nimble unit of design researchers, interaction designers, editorial, and retail experts at Zalando. We bring teams together to design complete product experiences by looking at fashion from a user’s perspective. We spend most of our time either decoding the needs of customers, brands, and internal stakeholders by building, testing, and iterating with crappy scrappy prototypes. We’re like a startup, but with the heavyweight resources, huge customer base, and implementation expertise of a multi-national.

When Robert Gentz and David Schneider founded Zalando in 2008, it was for a simple reason: to make buying shoes online easier. That combined with passion for fashion, technology and people has seen Zalando grow into Europe’s biggest online retailer and foremost technology company.
But as an organisation we have bigger ambitions to move Zalando from being a retailer to becoming a fashion platform by building new businesses that reimagine the world of fashion. The Studio is central to fulfilling that ambition, using human-centred innovation to understand people’s emerging needs, and quickly create new digital products, services and experiences that get to market, fast.
But just as fashion continuously reinvents itself, the way the world consumes fashion is changing too, led by shifts in social media, mobile and data. Fashion platforms are reshaping how people find new designers, get inspired, follow trends, get opinions, and how, where, and when they buy. We think there’s an extraordinary opportunity to reimagine the fashion business for the 21st century. So back in 2015 Zalando created the Studio with the global design and innovation firm IDEO to explore that future, and build it.
